Fantasy names for every Dragonbane kin

Dragonbane (Drakar och Demoner 2023) by Free League Publishing is a Swedish fantasy tabletop RPG with a setting full of distinct cultures. Each kin in Dragonbane has its own naming conventions, and a name that fits a Wolfkin warrior would sound out of place on a Mallard merchant or an Elf scholar. This generator gives each kin its own name pool so the result actually feels right at the table.

Human names

Humans in Dragonbane lean on Norse and Old Swedish roots — Astrid, Bjorn, Sigrid, Magnus. Two-part epithet surnames are common for adventurers ("Aric Frostbeard", "Helga Wolfheart"). Useful for PCs, hirelings, town guards and any character with a place in human society.

Mallard names

The Mallards — duck-folk who waddle through Dragonbane settings as merchants, sailors and unlikely heroes — get short, springy names with a comic edge. Their epithets often nod to a personal quirk rather than a heroic deed ("Quack Featherfoot", "Pip Boggrumble"). Lean into the whimsy.

Wolfkin names

Wolfkin names are growled rather than spoken — short, sharp, packed with hard consonants. Pack epithets ("Gorm Bloodclaw", "Skarra Nightfang") replace surnames. Perfect for fierce PCs and the Wolfkin raiders that show up in many Dragonbane adventures.

Elf names

Dragonbane elves are an ancient kin, and their names sound it: long, flowing, often with soft consonants and double vowels. Surnames tend to reference natural phenomena ("Aelara Starwhisper", "Loriel Mossheart").

Dwarf names

Dwarven names are stout and stone-rooted, often paired with a craft or clan epithet ("Durin Ironbeard", "Brunhild Forgeheart"). Great for masons, smiths, miners and any dwarf with a trade to defend.

Halfling names

Halflings have warm, soft, round-sounding names — and surnames pulled from food, fields and family ("Pippin Applebrook", "Mira Honeyfoot"). Use them for friendly innkeepers, traveling cooks and reluctant adventurers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Dragonbane name generator free?

Yes. No sign-up, no ads, no paywall, no limit on how many names you can roll.

Which Dragonbane kins does it cover?

Every official Dragonbane kin: Human, Mallard, Wolfkin, Elf, Dwarf and Halfling.

Will it work for other TTRPGs?

Yes. The names are Norse- and Viking-flavored, so they suit Dragonbane, Trudvang, Forbidden Lands, Mörk Borg, classic D&D, Pathfinder and most fantasy tabletop RPGs.

Can I generate NPC names and place names too?

Yes — open the filters and switch the "Type" to NPC, Village or Tavern. NPC mode always appends an epithet so the name lands with a story hook attached.
